Make Healthy Dishes at Home with an Air Fryer

It can be really difficult to give up fried foods when everyone at home loves them. Frying is involved in almost all delicious Indian snacks as well as several main course dishes. So, how do you get the willpower to change your eating habits and move on to simpler foods? It’s simple, you don’t. All you need is to do is change the way you cook fried foods. Air fryers are the solution to all your woes. You can prepare a variety of delicious dishes using these amazing kitchen appliances. You can try the following ones when you get your air fryer.

Starter: Onion Pakodas

This is certainly a favourite in most households and turns out wonderfully crispy in the air fryer. You can make the batter with sliced onions, ajwain, hing, chilli powder, turmeric powder, green chillies, coriander leaves, gram flour and little water. Adding a little oil will make the pakodas crispier. The batter must not be runny but a little sticky to coat well on the onions. You will also need a little oil, though way less than the normal frying process.

To start cooking, pre-heat the air fryer as per the instructions in the user manual. Place small portions of the batter on the mesh making sure not to overcrowd it. In about 10 minutes, you can flip them and brush them lightly with oil and continue to air fry for another 7 minutes. Your crispy pakodas are ready.

Veg Main Course: Bharwan Baingan (Stuffed Baby Eggplants)

This dish is not only healthy when made in the air fryer but also saves you a lot of time. Take 5-6 baby eggplants and cross slit them lengthwise, keeping the base intact. Prepare thick stuffing made of coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala, fennel powder, amchur and salt mixed with little water. Fill the eggplants with this stuffing and coat them with little mustard oil. Preheat the fryer for 2 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius and then add the eggplants to the basket with the timer set at 12 minutes. When the timer goes off, your eggplants are ready.

Veg Main Course: Tandoori Paneer    

Take 200 grams of paneer cubes. Prepare a marinade with yoghurt, salt, oil coriander powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, red chilli powder, garam masala, ginger-garlic paste, black pepper powder and fresh lemon juice. Marinate the paneer cubes using this paste for a minimum of half an hour.       

Preheat the fryer to 180°C for 5 minutes. Grease the fryer basket with a little oil, place a layer of marinated planeer cubes in the basket and cook it for 10 minutes, turn it and continue cooking for another 10 minutes. As the last step, raise the temperature a little and cook for 5-10 minutes till the paneer becomes crispy and brown. Turn once during the final cooking round.

All these dishes usually require the use of a lot of oil, but with an air fryer handy, you can enjoy these healthy versions. So, get cooking and enjoy!
